Spring-Watching Pavilion
Single channel video, 4 minutes 10 seconds, 2-channel sound
Originally commissioned by Chihuahua Dragon (now CASTANEDA) for Paris Fashion Week, 2023
This video work reflects on the artist’s grandmothers and the stories and myths she used to tell her of Vietnam’s landscape and of the coastline. Contemplating how history emerges from earth, this work entwines footage from Vietnam with a meditative narration from the artist and as poem by 18th century Vietnamese feminist poet, Hồ Xuân Hương. This film immerses us in a world of memory, slippery and ever-moving like the sea.

Spring Watching Pavilion
Solo Exhibition, TCB Gallery
25 Jan 2025—23 Feb 2025
Spring-Watching Pavilion is a personal exploration of memory, heritage, and connection, inspired by artist Victoria Pham’s Vietnamese lineage. The title draws from the 18th-century Vietnamese poet Hồ Xuân Hương evocative poem, Đài khán xuân (Spring-Watching Pavilion), which resonates throughout the exhibition. This body of work honours my grandmother’s life (1924–2023) by reimagining her grandmother's Hanoï tea room—a space that lives only in the memories and stories shared by my mother and aunt.
